Mark Saturday June 21 on your calendars. That's the date of the first annual King's Park Dog Party. We're currently making plans, but so far we're aiming for a start time of 4pm, rain or shine. Bring a dish to share with your human friends, while your furry ones have fun.
There's no admission fee, but contributions toward the new signage project will be gratefully accepted. Suggestions for other dog park improvements and activities are also welcome!!
Stay tuned for further developments.

Meeting up
I just discovered that you can search for local doggy groups on Meetup.com.
There are several groups listed for Winnipeg, including a couple for small dogs and one for English Bulldogs. Offleash parks are popular locations for their meetups.

New signage coming!
Just heard from City of Winnipeg Public Works. The Parks Department and Animal Services have started the process of working out new & hopefully better signage for the offleash area. No timeline was given, but I'm guessing it will be sometime this summer.
I also inquired about the KP Dog Association doing some fundraising to contribute to the signage effort and maybe getting more attractive signs.Tthe nice lady at Public Works is going to look into it and get back to me.

Facebook Dog Parks
Did you know that you can search for Winnipeg's offleash parks in Facebook? The DogBook application allows you to search for parks and also to see pictures of the dogs who go there. Here's information on the application and how to sign up for it: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2388926799

Welcome to the King's Park Dog Blog!
Well, I've done it - my first blog. I'll be writing about doggy adventures in King's Park, Winnipeg, Manitoba, and passing along info on pets & parks in general.
I'm also part of the new King's Park Dog Association, created to promote and preserve the off-leash area in our local park. Those of us who go there on a regular basis have discovered that while a lot of people love dogs and bring them to city parks to play & socialize, there are also lots of other people who don't get the off-leash concept, and view our dogs with hostility and fear. Will this blog help to inform and educate? Maybe yes, maybe no, but ya gotta try.
So, to get started, here's a link to the City of Winnipeg's "Fields for Fido" page: http://www.winnipeg.ca/publicworks/Parks/FieldsforFido.asp
Stay tuned for more info coming your way!
