Dog Party time again

Mark your calendars, folks! We're having another dog party to celebrate the offleash area, our dogs, the new signs, the cooler weather (you know the dogs love it, even if we may not).
The date is Saturday September 20 at 4pm in the offleash area, by the footbridge. Rain date is Sept. 21.
Like last time, we'll have a potluck for both humans and canines, as well as a raffle to raise funds for the remaining 2 signs. We already have just about enough money for one sign, so we're looking to raise $200.00 for the fourth one. If you'd just like to make a donation, you'll be pleased to know that the City of Winnipeg issues tax receipts for the signage project.
Bring your pooches, some munchies and a chair to sit on....we'll see you on September 20th at 4pm!

Sign, Sign, everywhere a sign

They're heeere! The new off leash park signs were installed last week and they look great. One is at the foot of the bridge past the pagoda, and one is at the diagonally opposite end of the field, by the walking path.

The City of Winnipeg sign shop did a great job, creating a handsome and easy to read sign, which also incorporates images of a bone and a cartoon dog to reinforce the message. The King's Park crew built this thing to last, bolting the heavy MDF board to 4"x4" posts that are solidly rooted in concrete. Hopefully these signs will last a long time, unlike the smaller directional dog park signs, 2 of which have been uprooted.

Reaction to the long-awaited signs has been mixed, which is a bit of a disappointment. Most of the regular off leash area users really like the sign, but others are a little lukewarm about it, I'm not sure why.  Maybe they think that dog owners are being overly regulated?
I think the signs are A Good Thing, since it makes obvious to everyone that this area has been officially designated as a dog play area. While some of us would like to see our pups have free run of the whole park, reality dictates that all park users have to share and respect their boundaries, and I think the new signs will help to do that.

Chica and Coco agree with me, naturally, and look forward to the next 2 signs, which will complete the set!
